I was wrong. This book is both insightful and interesting. MacArthur shows his heart as a preacher in telling the story of a man, his two sons, and the events that transpire as they live out this parable. MacArthur also uses his skill in language and culture to help the reader grasp some of the details of this story that he might otherwise miss. This is a great reminder that we are powerfully loved by God and greatly responsible for how we respond to His love. This is one of those books that I just did not want to end. It is hard for me to imagine there being a better exposition of the parable of the Prodigal Son than this one. John MacArthur delivers a truly edifying, Christ-exalting, gospel-centered masterpiece as he minutely examines this famous parable from the perspectives of each of the main characters -- the father, the younger son, and the older brother. The joy in heaven over God's grace in saving sinners is set in contrast with the tragic self-righteous hypocrisy of the Pharisees and their hatred of God's way of salvation by grace through faith in Christ. MacArthur misses nothing and communicates his powerful message in his usual clear crisp style. This is, by far, much better than Tim Keller's Prodigal God. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
In The Tale of Two Sons, one of America's most loved Bible teachers takes you deeper into Luke 15 than ever before, revealing insights into the culture of Jesus' day and an unforgettable ending. The Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) has been preached from nearly every pulpit in the world and is known by many who read and cherish the Bible. The story is so powerful because it presents, in clear and inspiring terms, our struggle with sin, the need for humble repentance, and the Father's inexhaustible mercy and love. Unfortunately, many Christians would say that they have nothing new to learn from this gem of Scripture. It has lost its luster. But in The Tale of Two Sons, John MacArthur restores the brilliance of this passage, giving engrossing historical background and unveiling a surprise ending readers have never heard before.
