much, much better than i expected. her love of her dogs, her planning and courage, her love of the north and great photos made this a winning experience.. (

This is the story of a woman who is determined to retrace the route of earlier explorers. They had travelled by dog sled from east to west - she did it west to east. She and her dogs survive, and have adventures, some caused by a several-weeks' early thaw (for they can only travel in winter), some caused by her lead dog deciding to adventure on his own. Not an adventure I would ever set for myself, but she was passionate about doing the journey. Glad I could read about it in the comfort of my own chair. (

Fascinating but not the best writing so it didn't hold me. Still way cool what she did, her determination and her courage. (

Great story of the first woman and the first American to retrace the path Knud Amundsen took along the Arctic coast. What a thirst for adventure you'd have to have! Some great insights into the dynamics of a dog team. (
