Ten years ago, a botched mission in Nicaragua ended covert ops specialist Nathan McBride's CIA career. Now he utilizes his unique skill set in the private sector--until the night Frank Ortega, former director of the FBI, calls in a favor. A deep-cover federal agent has vanished, along with a ton of Semtex explosives, and Ortega needs them found--fast. Because for him, this mission is personal: the missing agent is his grandson. And Nathan McBride is the only man he trusts to save him. But it quickly becomes clear that something bigger than even Ortega could have imagined is at stake. Within days of accepting the assignment, McBride finds himself trapped between a ruthless adversary hell-bent on revenge and a group of high-ranking federal officials who will stop at nothing to reap their own brand of justice. Here there are no rules, no protocol, no backup. Only McBride...… (meer)

Think Reacher, with an attitude, a partner and more assets. Fast moving, compelling story line with lots of good technical sniper stuff. Peripheral law enforcement dcharacters quite good and the villains really bad. Looking forward to the rest of the series. ( )

Well... I finished this book 2 weeks ago and promptly forgot about it. Like everything about it... the title, the author, the main characters... and I hate to admit it, I even forgot the important parts of the plot.

I spent 20 minutes searching to find the title or author so I could write my review! Ended up finding it only because I had tagged it as a book I received as a gift.

This might make you think that it isn't a very good book. That is not the case. I did enjoy this book while I was reading it on the deck during the long weekend, it just happens to be completely forgettable.

While you're reading it, you'll find the characters interesting enough, different enough, and the plot paced well enough, to keep you reading. Whether or not you'll be able to distinguish it after the fact from all the other action-thrillers out there, I'm not so sure. I will, however, read more in this series because there is nothing wrong with a book that takes you away for an afternoon or two and doesn't linger around in your head like a bad smell after. ( )

This was a really great book, and I will be reading more by this author if they are all like this. I loved the bond between Harvy and Nathan, they are and amazing team! And I love their morals...just a great book! ( )

Nathan McBride, a survivor of torture in Nicaragua, now uses his marine sniper skills to provide security. He's made millions and is occasionally called upon to go after those others can't find and use techniques not really legal. Mediocre offerings. Like many other "super" heroes in this genre, Nathan is just a little too good and a little too perfect. ( )

This is Andrew Peterson's first book?? Man, it's an impressive read! A lot of times, I'm told that I'd like a book because the hero is a lot like Jack Reacher, my favorite literary character. So far, in the past, the main character is nothing like Reacher. Now let me introduce you do Nathan McBride, who is cut from the same cloth Jack Reacher is from. Honestly, that's a very high praise. If you know who Jack Reacher is, then you know what kind of guy McBride is. A nice guy with a heart of gold, who'd do anything for you. However, like Reacher, McBride will snuff out a life when he's pushed to far. In First to Kill, McBride is pushed to far, way to far and pushes back.

It seems that three brothers have a highly dangerous explosive and isn't afraid to use it. In an act to save a sniper/swat team, McBride and his partner, Harvey take out one of the brothers with a single shot. McBride is an ex-sniper who never misses, and he didn't miss one of the brothers. Then one of the brother's wants revenge. He wants revenge on McBride, but also the government, but why would the brothers want revenge on the government? Ah, that's one of the great many plot twists in First to Kill, and this book has a lot of them that will keep the reader hooked to the very last page and left with wanting more.

McBride has an interesting past. I can't say what that is because I don't want to spoil anything for the reader. Alls I'll say is that it gives an great depth to Nathan McBride. All of the characters seem life like and jump off the page at the reader.

Peterson has the ability to keep the reader glued to every page through great characters, a fantastic plot with many twists, and keeping everything believable, and having the plot move at a wonderful pace. Not to fast, and not to slow. Many authors who have been writing for years does not have this down, but in Peterson's first book, nails it.

If you like the Jack Reacher books, then you'll love this as much as I did. I know I can't wait for Peterson's next book. I'll be the first in line to get it. I hope it comes out soon.

If you start this book, you won't be sorry. I know I wasn't. ( )
