'Essential reading for anyone wanting to move beyond critiques of economic globalisation to coherent and credible alternatives.' Dame Anita Roddick DBE'Woodin and Lucas set out an eloquent and passionate argument which not only challenges the convenient assumption that economic globlisation is inevitable, but which also explodes the myth that globalisation benefits the poor.' Vandana Shiva'A genuine alternative that promotes policies for people and the planet. If more politicians thought like this, we would live in a far better world.' This book is now ten years old and, before I started to read, I did wonder how relevant a decade old manifesto might be. Imagine re-visiting the broken promises of our "major political parties" from 2004!

I was in for a pleasant surprise. The passing of the years had not only made the views expressed all the more pertinent, but the problems foreseen in this book have become clearer to the eyes of the less percipient (ME!!!) I will not try in a few paragraphs to recreate the arguments put forward in this well considered and researched tome but, I will admit to being surprised by the sheer practicality of the authors' belief in a Localist future. I have been amongst those who have written off the Green Party as a bunch of well meaning ideologists with little grasp upon the real World: no more! This is a sensible path to a better World and one that, I expect, others will eventually see as the best hope for mankind.

If you care about our planet and our fellow humans, this is a book that you need to read! ( )
