This book was very different from the other poetry books I’ve read. I really liked how each poem was from a different author and how well the poems flowed together. These poems were about different activities that children may encounter in their everyday life from waking up to going to bed. I think this book is perfect to read to children because it can be so easy for the children o relate to and it makes them engaged in the book. The poem started off from waking up, going throughout the day, and ending with nighttime. I think this is a great book to read to students to open them to new authors and teaching them about poems. This book makes it easy for children to understand poetry and I think that is a big help when teaching children. I also like how this book has many different authors, so you the reader get to read how each author uses language for effect in their poems. I think that this is another good thing to teach children and this is the perfect book to show that. ( )

This a cute book filled with poetry for children. The poems in the beginning are about waking up the end poems are all about going to bed. My favorite poem was titled Cat Kisses. My kitty usually wakes me up with sandpaper kisses also, I thought it was an adorable poem. ( )

This book is filled with poems about dreaming, waking up, school, what happens during the day, and going to sleep. The beginning of the book the reader views poems about dreaming, waking up, and school. They are all by different authors and all get the point across. Then the end of the book concludes with poems about going to sleep, taking a bath, and brushing teeth. A child would like these poems because they are extremely relatable. Children go through the routine of their day like it is nothing, but with these poems meaning and purpose can be added to their every day routines. ( )

"Hello Sunshine, Goodnight Moonlight: Poems to Take You through the Day" is a collection of poems from multiple authors that can describe a child's first day of school. The book includes poems about waking up from a dream, getting ready in the morning, the journey to school, the fear of the first day of school, doing fun activities after getting home, and getting ready for bed. With each page containing a poem by a different author, this kind of format and style still flows greatly from one page to the next, painting a perfect picture of this first day of school for this child. Towards the end of the book, there are also lullabies included in the part of the story where the child goes to sleep. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It tells a common story in a special way by incorporating the poems and lullabies of many different authors. I would definitely read this book with my own students to introduce them to different poets and to eventually branch off of this book and read other poems by the ones in this book. ( )

This collection of poems takes one through the day to day activities that a child may encounter. The poems range from brushing your teeth, going to bed, to the first day of school. Each poem is a favorite by the illustrator, John Wallace. He chose the poems from varying authors and some even have anonymous authors. One of my favorite authors Emily Dickinson has a poem in this book titled “A Word”. Wallace did a good job of having different types of writing styles in the book. Some poems are in ABAB form; others have ABBA form. His illustrations are very simple, yet they are detailed to go along with the poem. Each page has the same border from the first poem to the very last, which to me connects the poems. ( )
