I’m afraid I’m hard to please when it comes to Bible-story books. Too many kid books skip important parts of the story, or get the focus all wrong. The Walls That Fell Down Flat is fairly good, though. It stays true to the original, adding only such commentary as is probably necessary for understanding the story. The language is simple, but vivid. In fact, it’s good enough that I’m willing to forgive the cartoonish drawings and the obnoxious font-size changes--features my kids either don’t notice or don’t mind. Overall, not a bad book. The story of Joshua and the crashing defeat of Jericho, retold by Jennifer Rees Larcombe and illustrated by Steve Bjorkjman for the BEST BIBLE STORIES SERIES. The disobedient Israelites had been wandering in the desert for forty years, but now they had a bold, strong leader, Joshua, God could finally lead them into the Promised Land. First they had to defeat the Canaanites. They listened to God's instructions carefully, and for a week they march round the city of Jericho with the Ark of the Covenant, blowing their trumpets loudly. On the seventh day, they marched round the city seven times, and as they shouted and blew their horns, the city walls began to rattle and shake and, with a terrible crash, collapsed in a heap. The land was finally theirs, with its green fields and juicy fruit, and the people once more promised to trust in God. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
