This fourth volume of erotic extracts draws from a wide range of sources, from Victorian/Edwardian through to more recent decades. Some of the fifteen extracts, averaging 18-19 pages long, are from quite well known sources such as ‘Walter’, ‘The Autobiography of a Flea’, and ‘The Romance of Lust’, and their inclusion will no doubt detract from the value of this collection for those with a reasonably well-stocked erotic library. Some of the extracts, however, are from obscure texts, some of them fairly robust extracts, including bits of ‘Gus Tolman’ and ‘The Wantons’. As the fourth selection from the corpus of erotic material the book suggests the concept is wearing a little thin, and the choosing of small chunks from some of the larger works could be seen as somewhat idiosyncratic, but the book does just about work as an erotic read without being too shocking.
