Tammy is a camper with down syndrome. A camper thought it was a disease that was contagious. When the camp leader explained to the campers that is was a born with an extra gene. Tammy befriend another camper, that is when they became best friends. This is a nice book to introduce to young students or children to understand down syndrome; it also states some of the character traits. ( )

It was the best summer at camp. Her camp leader asked her to help a new friend who was going to be joining them at the day camp. Her camp leader shared the new friend had down syndrome. She wasn't sure what that meant. But the camp leader explained to all the children what down syndrome was and that she needed just a little extra help because she had an extra chromosome. Becoming friends with Tammy made her remember the best summer she ever had since becoming friends with her.

Helpful tool with siblings, friends and neighbors of children with Down Syndrome. Geared towards elementary-school age. Older siblings and parents can read to younger siblings. Helps take the fearfulness out of Down Syndrome. Good partner book to Our Brother has Down Syndrome. Beautiful, captivating illustrations that hold children's attention.

I thought this book was adorable. It's a great introduction of Down Syndrome to children. Although I do believe considering the intended age of the book's audience, rather than focusing on the physical features of Tammy, focusing more on Tammy's positive personality traits would have been better. I believe children may not understand the exceptions of the physical features and it can possibly cause a sense of confusion. Needless to say, the book did show a great description of friendship and how individuals with Down Syndrome are capable of as many accomplishment as an individual without Down Syndrome. ( )

This book is great to introduce to children who might have questions about special needs, or maybe they will be meeting someone with special needs, This book allows them to see that children or people with special needs are amazing just like they are.
