PI Rosco Polycrates and crossword editor Belle Graham are about to tie the knot, but a nasty case of multiple murders could give them cold feet A homeless man has been found in an alley, clobbered to death. The crime seems pretty cut and dried--vagrants fighting over turf--until the Newcastle Police Department uncovers a connection to a local shelter in danger of being taken over by greedy developers. Is the dead John Doe a victim of some sinister plot? And what became of the scruffy mutt he had recently adopted? Recruited to find the missing puppy, private investigator Rosco Polycrates has to juggle the search with his upcoming nuptials to Belle Graham. And soon a second murder shatters the serenity of their scenic Massachusetts town. Then Rosco disappears . . . and Belle starts receiving threatening messages concealed in fiendishly clever crossword clues. Will Rosco become the third victim? With time running out, the Queen of Cryptics races to fill in the blanks before her wedding is put on hold--forever. This ebook includes six crossword puzzles that can be downloaded as PDFs, with answers in the back of the book. The Crossword Connection is the 3rd book in the Crossword Mysteries, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.… (meer)

Well, there were crosswords to figure out. That's the high point of the book though. I will give the author another chance, but I have to agree with others that have reviewed this book--it isn't very special in any of the ways that make a good mystery. ( )

In this 3rd installation of the Crossword Murders series the action focuses around Belle Graham and her fiance Rosco Polycrates upcoming nuptials.
Unfortunately, the plot seems very contrived (Belle has a stalker, Rosco gets kidnapped, everything works out just in the end) and the characters seem to do themselves in with stupidity. Belle makes stupid moves. Rosco has dumb responses. And, in the end, I don't even understand why the kidnapper kidnapped him in the first place. She was a minor character that seemed to have little on no relevance to the plot until the end. I probably rated this one higher than it deserved due to previously liking the first two in the series but it does seem the authors phoned it in on this one. I will give the next one in the series a try before I abandon the series altogether. ( )

With the Peterman Brothers staging an attack on a homeless shelter for real estate reasons, a murder is committed. Follow the police and private investigators as they try to unravel this mystery that has a bunch of connections to crossword puzzles.

Very quick read. Good flow and plot development but just not a lot of story or mystery in this mystery. Overall a nice quaint PG mystery. ( )

Blah. Stilted dialogue--heck, all the writing is stilted, the characters act weirdly--without motivation to do so. Gratuitous use of italics. Then there's the character that calls the heroine's fiance "Poly---crates" every single time he uses the name. And it's "deduced" that a golf club could not be a murder weapon because...get this: the victim wasn't wearing golfing clothes. WTF?? And the killer sending cryptic crossword puzzles was just tedious. My impression is that this was *about* the 6 crossword puzzles contained in the book. The story, such as it was, was just filler.
