Dylan and his dad are searching for Sasquatch. Together, they join a group of other Big Foot hunters on a quest to unlock the mysteries of the forest. Dylan's father is eager to hunt and kill the Sasquatch, Dylan however doesn't want this to happen. Dylan's father and the hunting group believe that if they kill the Sasquatch then they can prove that they exist. With the constant worry of Mount St. Helens erupting, the group has to work hard to find the mysterious creature. One of the group members, Mr. Johnson doesn't seem to be as trustworthy as everyone thinks. This just adds to the mystery and suspense of the story!
Older elementary and middle school students would enjoy this book. This is an adventurous story that would most likely capture the attention of students in grades 5-7. Students in the Pacific Northwest will like that this book is set in their area. This story would be helpful for students to learn the elements of a good mystery story. I would have my students make predictions between each chapter while reading this story. Were their predictions correct? If all of their predictions were correct would this have been an engaging mystery? Students will then write their own 3-4 page mystery story. They will have to determine whether their writing is predictable, and if they have any plot twists that help add to the mystery. It will also be important to make sure the students know that plot twists must add to the story instead of confusing them. This would be something that is talked about before the students begin reading this book. ( )

I am a fourth grade teacher and used this book with one of my leveled reading groups. I couldn't keep the kids from reading ahead. We read two chapters a day, but that wasn't enough for them. I finally let them read the final section in one day and they were thrilled! Great book to motivate kids to read! ( )
