Note the copyright date of 1974. ?áThe storyline is inspired by the folk rhyme Going on a Bear Hunt, but Emberley's an artist, and here he used a style that is pretentiously understated and primitive. ?áIt looks like a small handmade chap book, created as a gift to a favorite godchild. ?áThere's no theme, no excitement, no resonance. ?áI prefer We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Rosen and Oxenbury. ( ) Originally published in 1974, this book brings to life the story of an adventure that young Prince Krispin and his horse, Dumpling go on. Emberley's enchanting illustrations not only tell the story, but the words themselves become a part of the story as they weave in and out of the images. From the very beginning, we see Prince Krispin's horse, Dumpling, "klippity klopping" down the road, the words literally making a path on the ground where the horse had trod. The shading and simple line drawings bring this story to life. I love all of the details that Emberley includes in his illustrations, from the tiny flowers to the frogs croaking. Progressive story like The House that Jack Built, where a boy, dressed as a knight, mounts his horse and goes through the grass, over a brook and up a mountain, encounters a dragon and then reverses the whole trip to arrive safely at home. Fun to read with most all the words beginning with the letter k. Children love this story. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
