"Daughter's Day Blues" is a book about a girl named Phyllis Mae who just wants to have a day for herself. On Mother's Day, her little brother J.T. manages to make everything about him, which aggravates Phyllis Mae. When talking to her grandmother, Phyllis Mae asks if there's a day just for daughters like Mother's Day. The two end up choosing a day to be Daughter's Day, which will be all about Phyllis Mae. Phyllis Mae is excited about her special day, but her friend Nana seems to think it's a fake holiday, and J.T. is still managing to ruin things before the actual day. On the morning of Daughter's Day, nothing seems to work out like it was planned. J.T. still takes up most of his grandmother's attention, the special breakfast that Phyllis Mae was promised couldn't be made, and Phyllis Mae's mom was still at work. Phyllis Mae ends up running to her room and crying herself to sleep, but is woken up by her mom walking in. Outside is Nana, J.T., and Phyllis Mae's grandmother, all waiting to wish her a happy Daughter's Day. When Phyllis Mae blows out the candles on her cake, she's happy that she finally has a day to herself. I thought this book was really sweet, especially with the detailed illustrations. I feel like kids with younger siblings would really enjoy this book, since they can relate to what Phyllis Mae is going through. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
