Much of the information in this edition is reused from the first edition, but it takes the concepts of the first edition and extends them even more, especially in the virtual area. While the teacher librarian in the initial comics can be physically seen as somewhat scary, the message isn't. It is as a helpful, collaborative presence that helps the teacher librarian facilitate the continuing journey of learning. The ideas in this book are important - they are visionary and go way beyond the idea of the classic school library program. Loertscher and company try to move teacher librarians from being an isolated entity to a much more collaborative and exciting learning place. In this book there is much in terms of helpful resources to read about the theories in it as well as concrete examples of how it begins to work. Ever the beta situation (and acknowledged as such), the learning commons approach is an excellent way to help today's learners with learning. Useful index and glossary. Not to be missed! Highly recommended. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Advocates the development of what the author calls the Learning Commons as an alternative to restrictive school libraries and computer labs, which would allow students and adults to create their own information spaces and learn to be responsible for their actions in those spaces.
