BEDEVILED: DADDY'S LITTLE ANGEL was a funny story and one that is appropriately suited for Teens. With an authentic look at the teen school experience, BEDEVILED should relate well to students and those adults who want to feel like students again. Petroff does a wonderful job of creating a story that can be easily read and understood by a younger generation while still providing enough complexity to keep older readers entertained as well. I would say that there is enough humor in this book to transcend age. Teens should find the book full of chuckle moments and even a few awkward moments. I found myself laughing out loud on more than one occasion. One thing that really struck me with BEDEVILED was the way Petroff was able to give us a voice to take us through the story. We weren't necessarily narrated to or found ourselves following a character. Instead, it was like we were right there in the story - a part of the story. Largely due to this, BEDEVILED was a quick read for me. The words flowed so well across the page that before I knew it I had read over half the book in one sitting. I was able to finish this book in a day and look forward to going back and rereading it again. I thought that the premise of BEDEVILED was unique and quite refreshing in the way Petroff delivered it. I'm sure there have been stories of the Devil as a parent before, but Petroff makes this story funny and quite authentic. Even though there were elements of fancy within the story, it still felt very realistic. That's the mark of a great author. I would recommend this book to any lovers of Teen Fiction or Teen Fantasy. The story was well written and captivating. Petroff's writing style is easy to read in some placed and addicting in others. I have to give top marks to BEDEVILED. It's not often that I feel compelled to reread a book shortly after finishing it, but BEDEVILED has captured my attention and refuses to let go. Of course I have to mention the cover. This one is beautiful and colorful - my cup of tea. Petroff has created a fun story in Bedeviled. The reader is entertained not only by the dynamic between Angel and her father (Lou Cipher, get it….Lucifer, haha) but is also treated to light-hearted lessons on morality, how individual decisions not only affect our own lives but also of those around us, and finally about acceptance. Despite the unrealistic circumstances, ie: the devil rises to claim his sweet awkward daughter, the story does view the above mentioned themes in a realistic light. Angel is a typical girl running head long into teendom where the biggest concerns she’s face with are popularity and boys. She’s typically spiteful, characteristically awkward in social and public situations and most of all unforgiving when she thinks its warranted. Anything more or less than that would have made the story shift more towards the implausible. The story is a quick and easy read of complex issues today’s teens may encounter in real life. While understandably targeted towards the middle grade and young adult reader it is still enjoyable for adults as well. Angel Garrett has just several wishes on her thirteenth birthday: for Cole Daniels to notice her, and to go to the Mara’s Daughters concert. Imagine her surprise at the arrival of her father—whom her mother said was dead—and the greater shock that her father is the Devil himself! Angel wants nothing to do with the Devil, but her father, desperate for some father-daughter bonding, shows Angel what he can provide for her: the concert, the popular friends, the boy, and much more. As Angel navigates the treacherous waters of middle school popularity, she struggles to keep her old best friend as well as reduce the influences of devilish magic in her life. If you want a classic middle school popularity story with a funky paranormal twist, consider Shani Petroff’s debut book. It’s got the social angst that will appeal to middle school girls, with just enough crossover appeal that will sing for older readers. I enjoyed Shani Petroff’s take on the Devil, making him into a—dare I say it?—likable, sympathetic character. (I mean, the guy wants to be called Lou. Is that non-Satanic enough for you?) DADDY’S LITTLE ANGEL convincingly shows the limitations of external influences on one’s social standing in school without sounding preachy. While older readers might sigh in exasperation at Angel’s retrospectively painful desire for popularity, younger readers will easily sympathize with Angel’s emotions and behavior in a Judy Blume-like way. The one aspect of this book that consistently disconcerted me, however, was how I thought that DADDY’S LITTLE ANGEL was written in a way more similar to YA than MG books, when the characters and circumstances of the book clearly lean towards the MG crowd. Angel’s desires and actions are definitely those of a 13-year-old’s, but the way she narrated her story made her more reminiscent of an older teen. While this discrepancy jarred my belief of her as a genuine middle schooler, the more mature tone in narration might be the key to drawing in older readers. Overall, DADDY’S LITTLE ANGEL is a cute paranormal read. MG readers can read it alongside Judy Blume, while older readers looking for a light paranormal read won’t do wrong in picking this one up. I’m definitely curious as to what happens next in the sequel, BEDEVILED: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY DRESS! geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

I really enjoyed this fun tween book. Angel and her friend Gabi are likeable characters and the mean girls are straight out of everyone's school nightmares. There is also the beginning of a middle school romance. I will be checking back to see how Angel is doing. ( )
