She helps her grandpa on the farm then after they sell things at the market. One day she tries to do a good deed only to start another mission and not get to complete her goal. She wants to surprise her grandpa with leather shoes for his birthday. While picking fruit to sell in return for the shoes, she finds a burro. On the way to the market she asks everyone if the burro belongs to them. She names the burro, Cap, and falls in love. Everyone says no and when she arrives to the market, they are closed. On the way back she is sad but runs into a man that gives her his new leather shoes for the burro. She is happy to get the shoes and make her grandpa happy but will miss Cap. When her grandpa arrives home he is happy about the shoes. Josefina is happy because he brought Cap home with him saying the guy said she could take care of him. This story really shows that when you do good deeds looking for nothing in return, you usually receive happiness. I think I would read this book to my class showing the children that some people have it hard in life and still manage to be happy. I like how the author kept the book simple and to the point. ( ) Josefina is a Haitian girl in a country where fruits and vegetable were being sold in a free market. One day, she found a burro and named him cap. As with other people who find lost items, she began to ask people she saw if he belongs to them. This was when she was set out on a task to buy her grandfather specifically "leather shoes". Highly recommend for a third graders as it tells us about a culture that is very much like a melting pot. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
