This book is about how the team behind Obama's 2008 campaign won the hearts of college students. The author uses this chance to tackle several hot topics, providing data I hadn't seen before, which in my mind balances out some of the issues at hand. Though interesting, this book was difficult to read at times. The author writes in the speaking voice of a 20-year old, so at times, you don't want to take him seriously. Another problem I had with this book is that for all of it's anti-Obama campaign speak, I actually became very impressed with what they were able to pull off. Maybe if the Republicans were a little more innovative, they'd have a better hand at this game. In the end, I read this book to maintain balance. I don't support the Democratic or Republican parties. Like Lewis Black says, our bipartisan system is like a bowl of shit staring in the mirror at itself. The Republicans spend too much time farting and the Democrats spend too much time sniffing those farts. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderscheidingen
In 2008, Barack Obama lobotomized a generation. For an entire year, otherwise clear-thinking members of the most affluent, over-educated, information-drenched generation in American history fell prey to the most expensive, hi-tech, laser-focused marketing assault in presidential campaign history. Top young conservative activist Jason Mattera created an internet sensation with ambush video interviews that exposed clueless young liberals and cunning Democratic officials. Now he reveals the jaw-dropping lengths Obama and his allies in Hollywood, Washington, and Academia went to in order to transform a legion of iPod-listening, MTV-watching followers into a winning coalition that threatens to become a long-lasting political realignment. Obama Zombies uncovers the true, behind-the-scenes story of the methods and tactics the Obama campaign unleashed on youth culture. Through personal interviews and meticulous original research, Mattera explains why conservatism's future rests upon jolting the young masses from their slumber.--From publisher description. I hated the previous administration, and so any book casting them in a bad light is likely to be of interest to me. I'm not sue how this one got into my hands (dollar store?), but I looked forward to getting into it. Unfortunately, it primarily served to get me pissed off, with the slimy tentacles of that vile crew getting into every interest area of the younger generation and driving their falsehoods into “common knowledge” territory. I had a lot of notes in this one as well, but it would have just ended up as a rant more than a review.
