Still, tis a decent story overall. ( ) After the lighter interlude in Dueling Ambitions, things begin coming to a head as Knights of the Old Republic barrels to its conclusion. "Masks" wraps up the series' Mandalorian War plotline, with the Galactic Republic finally moving into all-out war with the Mandalorians, and also providing some nice wrinkles to Jarael's story. That's kicked into higher gear with "The Reaping," where Zayne and company try their most complicated con yet-- one that features some awesome scenes such as the liberation of an entire comet of slaves and a ship spinning its way to freedom. There were a lot of moments where I turned a page and what I saw made me either laugh or gasp. And then "Destroyer" itself reveals the big secrets that have been lurking in Jarael's background. The thing I don't like about this book is the principal villain; being a woman, Chantique of course gains her power from sexual manipulation and wants to seduce Zayne. Ugh. A dark secret from Jarael’s past has surfaced, and Zayne Carrick wants to help her take apart the criminal organization called the Crucible to which she once belonged. On the way, they visit with the Jedi Malak, on his way to the Mandalorian War, in events leading up to the situation in the Knights of the Old Republic game. Miller keeps up the pace throughout; I’m glad I waited to read this volume until 9 came out. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
The Old Republic (25,000-1,000 years before the Battle of Yavin) was the legendary government that united a galaxy under the rule of the Senate. The events in this story take place approximately 3,963 years before the Battle of Yavin. When former Padawan Zayne Carrick discovers his beautiful and fearsome ally Jarael has been running from her past as a slayer in an organization known as the Crucible, he dedicates himself to her redemption, helping her face her fears and bring down this shadow society that has claimed countless lives. Yet Zayne and his crew, including Gryph, Jarael, Slyssk, and the Mandalorian Rohlan, soon realize this is a far more difficult and dangerous undertaking than they prepared for, as the Crucible is not just a band of slavers, but an ancient secret that has plagued the galaxy for generations, unchecked, until now--P.
