The Furry Eyefulls loved to see all there is to see on the Island of Serendipity. Unfortunately they would never go to sleep for fear that they would miss something. Without sleep they become grouchier and grouchier. But with the guidance of a delightful blind snake named Kartusch, they learned about the magic of sleep and dreams. My mom read me these books as a child and as such, I have a particular endearment for them. When I found these seven in a book shop, and realized I hadn't read any of them, I snagged them, eager to read more of these favorite stories. Unfortunately, these seven tended towards the sappy and simple, instead of the imaginative and adventurous of the ones my Mom read. Perhaps she picked the best ones. Perhaps it is my own glossy memory of childhood. But the ones like Muffin Muncher, Wheedle on the Needle, Maui-Maui, and The Savepotmus are better. Still, owning these is important to me and I am glad I have them. I am starting to collect the Serendipity series again for my own personal library for I love the books when I was a younger child or least the ones that were out that I could find. And I don't remember any of them with Kartusch but I must say he is now one of my favorite characters within the series. In this book Kartusch shows that you don't have to be fully functioning in all your senses to be able to see beauty and that it sometimes can be found just by sitting still with your eyes closed. And also to be able to absorb the beauty that you do need you need just as much a chance to sleep. The pictures are beautiful and I love how Robin James portrays Kartusch both in this book and in "Gabby". geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
