Dit boek over de Eerste Wereldoorlog bevestigt die reputatie. Degene die zich uitvoerig wenst te verdiepen in de militaire geschiedenis van de aanloop naar en het verloop van deze oorlog wordt niet teleurgesteld. Zeer uitvoerig worden de verschillende fronten die de oorlog heeft gekend behandeld, niet alleen militair, maar ook politiek. Als eerste kennismaking met de geschiedenis van deze wereldoorlog is het boek mogelijk wat te uitvoerig, omdat de lezer verstrikt zou kunnen raken in de veelheid aan details. Drie katernen zwart-witfoto's en vooral kaarten geven extra verduidelijking. Zonder overdrijving is dit een militair-historisch standaardwerk over de periode 1914-1918.
