There is nothing better than a nice classic historical romance with a sexy Scot. Come on, you know exactly what I am talking about. They are the classic historical romance character because really, how many sane women can resist that sexy baroque. This book is definitely no exception, the Scot is sexy, the English miss is full of fire and they absolutely perfect for each other.

As I said before a Highland romance is the quintessential comfort read. It has everything you could possibly want in a romance and it usually involves a trip through the Highlands or English country and that is always a great way to spend a rainy afternoon in somewhere other than an exotic lush country side. I enjoyed this book for the beautiful scenery and the trip up a mountain and into a haunted forest alone, but that is not all I loved about this story.

I love the meek little character Emma starts out as and the fiery lady that she turns into. I love the hard edged Scot she tames and I love the spark they make together. I have read many of Ms. Medeiros' book and these characters are some of my favorites of hers. They are beautifully written and fun to read.

The greatest thing about this book is the humor and the plot. They are seamlessly woven together by the wonderful author and make the story enjoyable to read. Ms. Medieros takes the best of historical romance and smashes it together into the best s'more of a historical tale you could want. Definitely check out this book if you need a new comfort read. ( )

A tasty little summer read involving a sexy Highlander, a cruel Earl, and a smart, capable young woman. It's predictable, sure, but it is well-written and fun. Shades of Diana Gabaldon in the character of Jamie Sinclair, which, to be honest, makes everything taste a little sweeter. The twistiness at the end is certainly a key selling point to why this book works. ( )

This book stared out slow and got better as it went along. It was firmly in the 4-star camp until the ending, which was great and popped it up to the 5-star level for me.

I really enjoy Medeiros' writing style. This is the second book I've read of hers and I look forward to reading many more.

I have to admit, usually this is not a book I would have scooped up to read. So why did I really do so this time? To be brutally honest with you all, I picked it up because I was trying to complete a reading challenge of reading a book that had something in the title to imply color. Silly reason right? I am very glad I did pick it up though. It may have been outside my normal reading comfort box, but it was a great joy to read and I just loved it. Who knew! Emma is such a headstrong woman and such a great character. When added with Jamie, another wonderful headstrong character there are simply fireworks all throughout the book! The plot was new to me as far as the more historical setting, but I found myself enjoying it. It was not written in such a way that it seemed to be taking place back in time, so much as just an easy book to read. The whole deal of a man kidnapping his family's rival's bride to be from their wedding and then falling for her in the meantime, may seem a bit cliche, but I assure you it is done in such a way that you can't help but get sucked into it all. All the details and wonder of why these men are at odds and why Emma would agree to marry the earl in the first place just keep you reading on, if for nothing else but to figure out the whys of the whole situation. Then you add in all the characters and it's magic. Emma and Jamie are the main characters that I came to just love. As they are developed in the book, you come to realize why they are the way they are. I started to feel connected to them and couldn't wait to see how the author drew up their lives and where they went. The writing of the book may have been a bit overwhelming to some because of the Scottish tint to it, but I rather liked it. There was just something about it that drew me in and made it all seem so romantic and entertaining. Maybe it was just the "accent" that I could hear in my head as I read the book, but I just loved it. The details, descriptions, and flow of this book were wonderful for me. Being a longer book, I was a bit worried that it would fizzle out for me or it would contain a lot of "fluff" in the pages, but it really didn't. I found it to be an easy read and one that I just couldn't put down. If you are into a bit of romance with suspense and drama, this is the book for you. I highly suggest giving it a try!

Reading The Devil Wears Plaid reminded me of why I first fell in love with historical romances - slipping away to another time and place for a thrilling adventure with a seductive hero and spirited heroine. The story begins with seventeen year old Emma waiting nervously at the alter to marry her ancient bridegroom, the earl, Laird Hepburn. Always the dutiful daughter, she's left little choice in the matter, as Hepburn has paid Emma's father enough to settle his gambling debts in exchange for her hand. Just moments before vows are exchanged, the rogue Jamie Sinclair kidnaps her at gunpoint and whisks her away to his home in the Highlands. Emma is immediately aware that she is but a token in an bloody feud between the Hepburn and Sinclair clans. Instead of breaking Emma, her captivity makes her a stronger, more determined and passionate woman, one who can not help but be drawn to her handsome, virile captor. Jamie has promised to return Emma to the earl untouched if the terms of her ransom are met, but what will he do when he learns that's not what she wants?

Teresa Medeiros is a gifted storyteller, and her lasted release does not disappoint. The story was a captivating mix of mystery, suspense and steamy romance. The plot moved quickly with plenty of action and a few surprises along the way. The characters were compelling, and the chemistry between Emma and Jamie was hot! I loved Emma in particular. She was a clever and strong young woman, tough enough to survive the wilds of Scotland with a band of outlaws. Jamie was the perfect tempting hero, a tortured soul looking for the right woman to save him. The author describes the Highlands so vividly, I could easily picture myself being in this beautiful place. I would recommend this book if you enjoy the classic historical romance captor/captive story, especially of you are a fan of devilish men in kilts! ( )
