Thomas Newkirk is the author of numerous Heinemann titles, including Holding On to Good Ideas in a Time of Bad Ones, The Performance of Self in Student Writing (a winner of NCTE's David H. Russell Award for Research), and Misreading Masculinity (cited by Instructor magazine as one of the most toon meer significant books for teachers in the past decade). A former teacher at an at-risk high school in Boston, Tom teaches at the University of New Hampshire and directs the New Hampshire Literacy Institutes. The Art of Slow Reading grew out of his Educational Leadership article, "The Case for Slow Reading," which received national attention. toon minder
