This book is a great resource for factual information about many kinds of amphibians and reptiles. The author/illustrator used anatomically correct, colorful drawings and fun rhymes to describe anatomy, habitat, life cycle, and diet of a multitude of animals.

This book is about a frog who spends every day joyfully working at the zoo. Although this book is fictional, there are a lot of instances when the author includes facts about the reptiles in the zoo. This would be a good book to pair with an early nonfiction book about frogs and other amphibians/reptiles.

This is straightforward history of how, why, and when each cabinet post was created. It also gives a nice summary of each secretary's job, a breakdown of what positions were created under which president, and the expenditures of each department toward the end. The information would be useful to someone just learning about the United States government, and the information is easily understood. However, it also is rather dry and not presented with much creativity (though some of the illustrations add a bit of humor). The book is better for information than for entertainment. (And updated last in 1991, it also feels a bit outdated at this point, though that is not the author's fault.)½

Mrs.Wilson one day stood up, packed, and left her house. Instead of turning East towards town she turned West. Along the road she was picked up by two rabbits in a truck, along the way they picked up more animals who all seemed to have a talent and were going to the Annual. When they got their Mrs.Wilson was amazed by what they could all do, until it was her turn. She didn't know she was to preform so she told a story and amazed everyone with tricks. Two little rabbits, who fell out of the truck while being mischievous, ran into the Annual and scared everyone away. Mrs.Wilson went home and told her family everything that had happened and taught her children everything she knew about what the performers did. This was a great book for early readers who want to start reading chapter books. Some of the language is hard to understand but they can always use dictionaries to find the meaning of words which helps their vocabulary.

1: I would use this in my classroom when looking at talents everyone in the class has
2: I would use this when talking about changing up the routine a little bit.

Great book to introduce anatomy and physiology to students. This informational text is full of colorful diagrams with labels to identify and teach the organs of the human body. Although the complex nature of the content, the authors make the information easy to understand and provide fun and weird facts to keep the reader amused.

I loved this! Tells the story of a frog and his journey to being a "working frog" on display at the zoo. There are a lot of details about the process of putting him on display, including capture, exams, diet, and reasons why an animal might be replaced. There are so many areas for discussion and discovery, and this book would pair nicely with a section in science on zoos or amphibians.

Winston the bullfrog gets caught in a net and taken to the nearest zoo. He is then put in a holding tank to eventually be put on display. Winston loved the zoo and was happy to be there, however, I did not like this book because a lot of animals in zoos are mistreated and should not be there. A polar bear in tropic weather can not possibly survive to his normal lifespan. It is a good book for kids, I just do not approve of the theme.

I believe The President’s Cabinet and How It Grew is a good children’s book because it is extremely informational. First, while political topics may be very confusing for children, this book provides illustrations that help make the focus a little more relatable for young readers. Additionally, rather than using photographs the book provides creative and colorful drawings that draw the reader in rather than bore them. Next, I liked that after the book gave a brief background about how the cabinet came to be, there is a sort of time line of George Washington’s cabinet and those who follow after him. The message of this book is simply to inform children about what The President’s Cabinet is. This book is well written and illustrated because through creativity, it was easily relatable and captivating.

I love this book and think it would be a great choice to share with students when learning about the human body and its many functions. It is filled with countless information all about the many body systems, vital organs, and what they do to help us survive. It lists fun facts about our body such as our biggest organ is our skin and our brain weighs three pounds and has a covering like that of an orange. The pictures and words are in medical terms but easy to understand, and I think that if I can learn so much from one book then my students can too.

Organs are gross, but just as fascinating as they are yucky. Kids at younger ages cannot see organs as being anything but gross, but for the mature audiences, this book can be quite interesting. What is interesting about learning about these organs, is that we get a greater understand of how we ourselves work. Even if the kid is still in their "gross!" stage rather than the more mature viewpoint of having interest in scientific facts, then it is still great for them; Almost all kids love "gross" themed anything. The information in this book is actually pretty advanced and is most likely useful to an older audience. A lot of the information in the book was covered in my college Anatomy and Physiology class. The book includes fun facts and useful comparisons in order to give the reader a better understanding as they relate the specific organs to what they encounter in every day life. The pictures are well done, but I felt like the book could have used some more "eye catching" texts, I found most of the text rather bland.

It is about a frog named Winston who used to live in a pond until he was captured by a guy named Bill who works at the Bronx Zoo. Winston first starts off in a tank with the back up animals and then works his way to the display tank.

This is a great colorful educational book explains the many different organs we have in our body. It explains to us how they may fall apart and how to fix the organs if you can. There's also little facts such as the size, color, and texture.

Parker, Nancy Winslow and Joan Richards Wright. Frogs, Toads, Lizards, and Salamanders. New York: Greenwillow Books, 1990. This is a very nice book that specializes in amphibians and reptiles. It starts out with salamanders and ends with lizards. It has very detailed and colorful illustrations of the various types of each creature. Each drawing is labeled with the correct term for each body part. Below each creature is a paragraph of detailed facts. The facts are very accurate. They give information about the creatures defense mechanisms, eating behaviors and reproductive behavior. The back has a picture glossary that shows the steps in the frog and toads life cycle. It also compares the sizes of frogs and toads. Then it has illustrations of the insides of a frog and a lizard. I think this is an excellent book for a child who wants to know more about frogs, toads, or lizards. It can also be used as a supplement to a life science unit about amphibians and reptiles. The text is detailed and would require a child to be able to read fluently to comprhend the facts. Age group: 7-10 years

This book tells of a frog named Winston. He becomes a permanent animal on display.Learn all teh steps he went through and what Winston eats. I did not know a bullfrogs diet did not just consist of bugs.Read and find out what they eat and what goes into making a habitat.

This is a great children’s book to learn about the different organs in our body. A teacher could use this book as a review to each of the different organs. I like the little facts that are pointed out in each section. These will help to keep the students interested.

This was a very cute book! It had lots of interesting facts, some things that I did not even know about my own human body! It was really easy to read and put everything into a child's perspective without leaving any details out. I really like how the book is laid out in systems so that when I cover each system, I can always start the lesson off with an interesting, and relaxing read.

A frog is taken away from it's home only to be placed in a waiting area at the zoo. He would soon be on display and he would be a "working frog." He loved the attention and he loved his new "job."
Good read-aloud book or for a science lesson.

Retelling: Nick and his family find all kinds of different salamanders, toads, lizards, and frogs. This book describes each one. There are some very surprising facts!

Thoughts and Feelings: These animals have many of the same body parts that we do but they use them for different things. I was shocked to learn that some frogs breathe through their skin. I am wondering where “Yuma” is.

This book is very interesting. It gives you alot of insight on bugs and how they live and where they live. It gives you what they eat and the sizes

I myself do not like bugs so my personal reaction to this book was not great but it was a great informational book.

in the classroom i could use this book when talking about science and learning all kinds of new insects
