Rose Pearson

Joy is an outspoken debutante who manages to insult a Lord in front of others. His mother is there and spreads the gossip. Joy gets assigned to the wallflower group. She is standing back by the other wallflowers when Henry needs to be rescued from a couple of very persistent debutantes. He is looking for a wife but does not want either of them. He asks Joy to dance with him, so it does not seem he lied to them. She agrees. Later that night she finds a ring on the floor of the ballroom that she recognizes as his. She picks it up and returns it to him with a bit of advice. Henry is intrigued. Will he change his mind about the type of bride he wants? What is it about him and his ring? Does Joy stand a chance to return to society after being a wallflower?

I loved this book. I adored Joy. She just said it like it was and didn't care if she got in trouble (which she did.) Henry was a delight. He is a bit scattered, but Joy helps him reign in his ring. She also helps him figure out what is happening to the ring and eventually why. She does not spare Henry when it comes to her theories about his ring. Henry grows used to turning to Joy for advice. He also stands up to her mother and supports Joy's outlook on being true to herself. They are a great couple.
