The Talisman by Sir Walter Scott was released in 1827. I supposed the language is Middle English, and it does not really appeal to the present generation.

To those born before the Fifties will be aware of such authors of medieval classics by authors of 18 th and 19 th centuries. I remember this kind of classics such as Robin Hood; Ivanhoe were very popular. I am much younger .

". . .the language (of Scottʻs The Talisman) . . . is Middle English . . . (13)
No, Scott didnʻt write Middle English (or Scottish Gaelic, either, in his Scottish novels).
In the dialogue he did have them speak a language never spoken in any country or century - - a pseudo-archaic form of Modern (19th century English), just to "sound medieval".
