I have been reading Reading Lolita in Tehran recently and I thought perhaps I should read some Nabokov to understand the author's viewpoints better.

I decided to start with Invitation to a Beheading.. I look this up in the automated card catalog...and the only thing to come up is The Book of Wizard Parties (Because of the word invitation)

A search for Nabokov, Vladimir gives me several novels but none are listed in the system.. no location has them at all. They aren't checked out.. just not there.

So whats the deal? Has Lolita made libraries hesitant to carry ANY of his novels or is it just my region? (I live near Annapolis, MD)

I'm not quite sure what you mean by system, but its the "Aquabrowser" library search employed by my County's library page.

It is supposed to show you what locations it is available at... but I'm thinking its a bit flaky. Books that I know they have aren't showing up either now that I'm doing more searches. They put this new search engine up recently and I don't like it :(

That's what I used
http://aqua.aacpl.net/

Go to Books/Search the Catalog on the menu bar
put
author:"Nabokov, Vladimir Vladimirovich" in the search box

"Lolita" is the 4th one down

Select the title - you'll get a page that gives the availability information that I copied above

Hmm... maybe its just this browser Im using.. maybe it doesn't like whatever scripting that service uses to display the availability data.

Will have to wait until I get home and off this laptop.
