This is a decent, but tiny book, but really unnecessary to read, because while it's the first of a three book series, all three books are tied together into the first "Slaver Wars" book of the series of that name. The first book is called "Moon Wreck (The Slaver Wars #1)," not too different from this original. I've really enjoyed the Slaver War series, but really, these first three books are not essential if you're going to read that bigger series. Overall series recommended though. ( )

A good start to a series with potential. Not the "best" sci fi out there, as is the case with many self-published authors/books. Could use a copy editor. And a thesaurus, as the author tends to employ the same word choices repeatedly. The author's a bit old fashioned too (ie., some people would view him as borderline sexist), but it's still a pretty engaging story if you can get past these weaknesses, and the potential for a good series exists here. On to the next one! Recommended. ( )

It sometimes pains me to give such a low rating for a book that has so much potential, but I would feel even worse if I gave a high rating just because I feel sorry for the story. But this is it. One star. I tried to like this book, but it was so wrong in every sort of aspects that I couldn't bring myself to give a higher grade to begin with.
So basically two guys decide to go to the moon and as soon as they arrive, their ship randomly crashes on the moon's surface. Well, it happens to anyone, right? One day you decide you want to go to the moon and in the next moment your ship crashes right in there. Boom. No more trips for you.
First of all, let me talk a bit about the main characters of the book: Greg and Jason. Both care deeply for their families. Both had a common dream, which was going to the space. Nice. Now... where's the rest of the character development? What do we know about these characters? Nothing. Nada. Zero. There aren't any differentials for them. I mean, any aspects that made them unique. Okay, so one of them was a geologist (which you only find out because the author needs an excuse to describe the elements we're about to find in the scenario), but then what? The book says they had a bit of training for space operations, but, really? Can a bit of training take people to the moon? Then what the hell am I still doing here? I wish I weren't so strict with this, but the fact is that there is nearly no information about the characters that are leading the adventure and, at least for me, this is extremely important. In most times, it determines whether I'll keep reading the book or just drop it halfway and read something better. I wish there had been a bit more about them other then "they were guys that wanted to go to the moon". Maybe a bit more about their past, their training, their formation, their abilities, their personalities, I don't know.
Second thing: I strongly felt a lack of research regarding the main subject. I mean, you crash a plane and the first thing you do when you find that you're alive is... sleeping? Really? I'd say the first thing I would do is make sure the whole thing wasn't going to blow with me inside. They never seemed to even try to fix the ship, they didn't really seem worried about trying to make contact with Earth and, for heaven's sake, how come the Earth base wasn't desperately trying to figure what was wrong? I'm no expert in the subject, but as far as I'm concerned, this kind of project takes a lot of money, so there is no way anyone would slack off with the communication or the emergency measures.
Another thing that really bothered me was the characters' reaction towards the whole situation. We crashed the ship? Let's take a nap. We just climbed aboard the space vehicle? Let's take a nap! This really wasn't necessary, it felt like the author just wanted to get rid of the situation and could not find a better way to do it than making the characters taking a nap because "they needed some rest".
Finally, the thing that bothered me the most: the writing style. It almost goes as something like "and then, something completely unexpected occurred. 'Wow, this is unexpected!' Greg said, completely surprised". This book could use some severe reviewing regarding these things, because it did not happen only once. What makes this worse: there is a part near the end of the book in which they state that they are genuinely surprised with the situation, then the author says that the fact that the people on Earth already knew that actually was NOT surprising.

I don't even know how I should feel about this book. I guess I'm just glad it wasn't more than a short story, but it also made kinda sad, because the summary for his other books look pretty awesome, but I don't expect the narrative will differ from what I just read: very amateurish writing. ( )

OK, interesting story line, The ending wasn't a real ending but not a cliff hanger either. I think my English teacher mom would have a lot of read marks, but I just read it and didn't let the wrong word bother me too much.
