There’s also a useful history screen to see what previous items you’ve checked out, as well as an option to turn the orientation off on your phone (although many newer iPhones have this feature already built in). All that’s required to start checking out items is a membership in a participating library, your library card number, and then an entire downloadable library (or maybe even two or three!) is available at you fingertips.
