I'm a huge fan of Bram Stoker's Dracula and was very disappointed in this novel. Had it not been billed as the sequel to Dracula written by a descendant of Stoker, I may have been more generous and given the book two stars. Some really great ideas just fizzled or became annoying because it seemed like the authors were imaging the book being made into a movie. Cardboard characters. After I had read the last page of this horrific novel, a story written it is safe to say by crazed horror fans for crazed horror fans, I had to uncork a bottle of deep red wine and make a toast to the authors of this tale of terror. I have been a fan of horror films and novels since sneaking into our living room late at night as a boy barely 7 years old when everyone was asleep to watch the local channel's horror show "SHOCK THEATER". It was here that I watched that superbly frightening and violent scene wherein the 1931 Dracula film where Bela Lugosi smashes the mirror out of the hands of Van Helsing his eyes blazing like a madman. From then on I was hooked. I became a regular reader of the magazine Famous Monsters Filmland. I love it. So I lift my glass to you, Dacre Stoker and Ian Holt. And in the unforgettable words of Count Dracula "I never drink wine"
John Barrymore and Bram Stoker himself are among the real-life luminaries who figure in a campy mash of historical fiction and romance-novel leering that smells of some unholy alliance between E. L. Doctorow and Barbara Cartland.
One by one, the band of heroes that defeated Dracula a quarter-century ago is being hunted down. Could it be that Dracula somehow survived their attack and is seeking revenge? Or is there another force at work whose relentless purpose is to destroy anything and anyone associated with Dracula? Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
