The book is filled with drawings and these drawings are accompanied with a short paragraph that describes the step that is being demonstrated. The drawings start off in black and white and by the final step, color is added. In addition to steps on drawing fairies, there are also step by step instructions on how to draw things related to fairies, such as mushrooms, wands and various fruits.
Audience: Elementary and above.
Curriculum: Art
Personal Response: This is a great starting book for individuals interested in drawing in general. The book is titled “How to Draw Fairies” but it demonstrates the basic of how to draw human-like characters. The instructions are very easy to follow and it is also helpful that each step is described in detail and often times a reason is provided on why the step needs to be done before proceeding onto the next step. One thing that I saw that was distracting to the book was that not all the drawings were done in black and white. The overlapping of colors made it difficult to recognize what step the author was trying to demonstrate. Overall, this would be a great book to give to students to introduce to them the basics of drawing human-like characters.… (meer)
