This book chronicles the adventures of Sylvia, Rae, Margaret, and Gwendolyn, British women who experienced the friendly invasion of GIs from the United States during World War II. During the course of the war, each of these women would fall in love and eventually marry one of the many American GIs. They would later immigrate to the United States after the war to be with their new husbands. I had to admire the inner strength of these women who left their homes for a new country, having to adjust to a new culture that they didn’t understand and people who didn’t understand them. All these women also had to deal with adversity within their own marriages, having to be courageous enough to make tough decisions for the sake of themselves and their families. GI Brides explores the lives of four British women who marry American soldiers during World War II. They fall in love with a military soldier, marry, and emigrate to the United States with their military husbands. While each woman married for love, they mostly struggled with their new life in the United States. What followed was mostly disappointment and sadness. This was a rather depressing read overall, but I was glad I read it. I'm sure it was an extremely difficult time. I liked the content, but the writing was poor.
