Former big shot rocker Mikey (Billy Zane) is now a middle-aged has-been trying to organise a comeback. Saved from a life of drugs and booze by wife Joyce (Jane Wheeler) the pair are happily married, but when sexy, backing vocalist Matty (Estella Warren), arrives at the studio Mikey finds himself quickly drawn to her. The pair are soon getting down to dirty sex with Mikey seduced back to drugs by the wild Matty. It slowly dawns on Mikey that there may be more to his new lover than meets the eye. This made-for-TV thriller is patently rubbish but with an enjoyably stupid edge. Jacqueline Giroux’s script lacks common sense and delivers a plot twist so obvious that it appears to be some sort of surreal joke. Director Timothy Bond goes about his business with little flair but at least keeps the thing moving from one ludicrous situation to the next. Billy Zane looks dead-eyed and bored, for most of his performance looking as if he’s gobbled a fistful of industrial strength downers. Estella Warren goes about her business with a degree of ham-fisted enthusiasm and is always enjoyable to watch. “Blue Seduction” isn’t great – the plot is messy and technical aspects just about passable, but despite that there it has a stupid earnestness about it. The director’s attempts to create an edge of the seat thriller are silly but enjoyable and two leads make for a compelling and entertainingly bad watch.… (meer)
