sounds like heavily padded pseudoscience--meditation repackaged as science, skimmed

This HeartMath book uses the same techniques as others but in a more focused context of stress and anger. What I liked best about this guide was the direct applications for the workplace; even introducing the concept of "business heart" which uses practical and measurable ways of dealing with stress in the workplace by adding more heart and compassion.

This book provides a complete yet concise overview of hypertension causes and traditional treatments. It goes on to show how HeartMath techniques can assist in lowering stress and directly impact heart physiology. The last few chapters are loaded with medical backup and references. It was written by a MD (Bruce C. Wilson) who has a pretty good sense of humor making this an easy read.

I actually read it twice. I'm ahead of schedule reading this for my Heartmath Coach certification course that begins in May and it's gotten me more excited for the course. This book gave me great insight as to the vast applications of the techniques and how this can truly change the world!

This quote from the book sums up the contents: "As people open their hearts more, emotional understanding will bring them insights before science is able to explain the whole process." Many of the HeartMath techniques in this book are in others but the wording and tone used in this one are completely aligned with my own way of thinking and processing. I'm really comfortable with the idea that stress comes from your perceptions and reactions to them. Shift from the brain to the heart and you can broaden your perceptions and release your stress.

I read 16 pages. I expected some science about the heart/brain connection and it may actually be in the book somewhere. I did not find anything of substance in those 16 pages except for the probably truth that the heart does beat without the need of the brain. It was pointed out that a heart can be transplanted and started and neural connections to the recipients brain are not made.

There were a couple of things that I felt were inaccurate that I just let slide and cannot recall, but on page 16 I jumped out of the book when I was told that the human brain works in a linear, logical fashion. That, I believe from much other reading, just is not true. Look up something on mind mapping to see my point.

That was the last straw for me. I was bored until that and then I got all excited--about returning the book to the library.

Using a combination of scientific studies, examples and an extensive list of references, this book provides an introduction to the HeartMath Solution for relieving worry, fatigue and tension. As a rational thinker, I have often underestimated the impact that emotions and heart awareness have on my life. This book has been a key to helping me begin to realize how my attitudes have created health issues as well as limitations to the creative power and intelligence of the heart and emotions. Thanks to Janet for introducing me to this material.

It is a wonderful easy to learn method. But contains too much repetition and much paid marketing hype for the prodcuts of Heartmath.
