There are many valuable communication skills highlighted in this short book. The author explains that he has tried to summarize wisdom he gained from many years of working with youth and adults in counseling.
The author would have benefited from the use of an experienced editor. Many of his sentences are too long -- packed with clauses as he attempts to include all of the possibilities. Some of the ideas expressed are repeated from previous sections; others are not adequately explained.
The author intends for marriage partners to work through the book together, like a workbook. If that was his intent, he might structure the text by telling a story, then explaining a principal or skill of good communication, and then listing discussion points for couples to practice that principal together.
There isn't adequate coverage given to situations in which the relationship has deteriorated to the point where one partner isn't willing to work on communication. Another chapter might be devoted to how one determined spouse can work on the skills to model and teach them to their partner.

What a wonderful workbook! Lots of great advice and tips on how to have the best marriage possible. I try to read a book on marriage every year as preventative maintenance for my marriage. This book was a great addition to our collection and I enjoyed the prompts for discussion with my husband. Definitely recommend this book. Newly and older married couples can all benefit from this workbook.

Why I finished this read: Thus is an easy to read 86 page book designed to foster, develop and strengthen marital union.

Marriage is a journey and I feel as though this book wants to help you make sure you have a good one! As it says right in the beginning, this isn't a book you "read" - it's advice to help you practice working towards a strong marriage. Interesting discussions at the end, whether or not they apply to us it's thought-provoking to consider. I will keep this handbook to refer to as needed and also as the author says, to be the best partner I can. I would recommend it!½

I was given a free copy of "The Best Little Marriage Handbook: A Powerhouse of Great Discussions" via LibraryThing. This was a well written book by William Monette. The book is not very long, but it has a lot of great information that is delivered in easy-to-understand language. There are many many enlightening discussion questions that a couple can pick to help guide them to a better relationship.

A good handbook that delves into the way communication can have such an enormous impact on relationships. Full of useful tips and advice and doesn't shy away from the harder topics to overcome such as interrupting and getting the last word in.
Would be a good read for any relationship, not just a married couple.
