This book about data analytics is filled with citations, which lends credibility yet reads a bit like a masters’ thesis or an attempt to scale down a data analytics textbook. Each chapter has a short quiz, and some sections are a bit repetitive. There are interesting yet quite simplistic case studies toward the end of the book. I would not see this as a comprehensive source on data analytics, but could see it being useful as an easily accessible overview.

It took me some time to get through this textbook - specifically because I wanted to ensure I really looked through the textbook and give a review I was pleased with.

This textbook (and I've read a lot of data analysis/analytics books) was engaging and really good to read. It was so informative, and the way it was written was brilliant!

The expertise is there - and it explains concepts in easy, digestible ways. It's really great!

The one recommendation I have, is that the Chapter Questions or the revision question answers are put at the back of the book. I think they're really good revision questions, but from a lecturer perspective, you wouldn't want people to be able to see the answers. You'd want them to try and work through the book and the answers and look back in the chapter, rather than give the answers immediately there.

I highly recommend this book on data analytics. It is well written, easy to understand, and incredibly informative. It can be difficult to engage individuals with such a topic but the author does an excellent job of making the material interesting and, dare I say it, exciting. Each chapter has a summary and a quiz at the end, which, to a librarian like myself, is a great talking point when recommending the book to others (especially the others who are students and need to read something on the topic). Impeccably researched, the bibliography is a treasure trove of further resources. I personally love data so I already enjoyed the topic, but I truly believe anyone that needs or wants to know more on the topic of data analytics can enjoy this book.… (meer)

This is a decently legit intro to the basics of data analytics and other data-related concerns. It's mostly intended for private businesses (as demonstrated by the case studies being private businesses) and the people who work in them, but since AI and big data are two of the big current conceptual fads in technology, this would be a worthwhile read for people working in the public sector, the military, or pretty much anywhere else that's concerned with big data, data science, ethical/legal/privacy concerns arising from big data, and other similar issues.

It doesn't give a lot of math problems or equations, but that's ok - this isn't intended to be a technical manual for coders or computer science people, but rather a conceptual overview for everyone else. It succeeds very well in that sense.… (meer)
