- A note on 'Purple':
If you're wondering why I have several books tagged as 'Purple' when the word 'purple' doesn't appear in the title or seem to have any significance to the book itself, I'll try to explain.
Years ago, I read a book in which Ursula K. LeGuin was describing one of her works (Rocannon's World, I believe) as being difficult to categorize as either purely fantasy or purely science fiction; while ostensibly SF, it contained some mythic themes, and in fact was influenced by the Odin myth, if I recall correctly.
I've searched the web to no avail for the quote, but as best I remember, it went something like this:
"If fantasy is red, and science fiction is blue, then this book is definitely purple."
I absolutely love that quote (incidentally, if anyone knows which book it appeared in, please let me know!).
I've used the 'purple' tag for works which seem to be 'inhabitants' of more than one genre, and the line between genres is too blurry to choose just one ... and when categorizing the work as both/all relevant genres just doesn't feel right, somehow. - Over mij
- I'm a work in progress, as is my little corner of cyberspace. And I'm also ... just a wee bit ... verbose ;-)
