(Ongoing cataloging of all the books I remember reading:)

I'm trying to track down the titles in a teen romance series I read in the late 80s to early 90s. I think the books were published in the 80s--definitely not earlier. There were 4-5 books in all.

The series centered around a spoiled girl who moves with her irresponsible mom to a condo near the California shore--same general area, but different neighborhood, and she might have had to change high schools. Her mom has either left her dad or the father has died. They must learn to live within a budget, so the girl gets a job in the local pizzeria. The neighborhood's rebel boy works there as well--he rides a motorcycle (I think), wears a leather jacket, and is portrayed as "ethnic"--Italian American, I believe. Naturally, they fall in love, hijinks ensue, mother disapproves, etc, etc, etc. I believe the girl also has a rich, college-bound boyfriend whom she finally realizes is a lout.

I only remember one scene: The girl and the pizza guy are playing 'vampire': He is biting her neck while saying, "I vant to suck your blood," or something similar, when the disapproving mother catches them and . . . disapproves.

I also vaguely remember that, in one of the early novels, she crashes her car or is injured in a car accident and the pizzeria boy rescues and/or helps her. I also seem to remember that the plot of one of the books centered on the girl choosing not to have sex with the rich lout but then deciding that she wanted to have sex with the pizza boy, but I can't remember if they decide to go through with it.

I think the novels were written in the first person with the girl as the narrator.

The cover might have shown a photo of a blond girl and dark-haired boy on a motorcycle: she possibly leaning over his shoulder smiling and possibly wearing a heart- or polka-dot patterned shirt or shorts.

I found them. The series is Heartbreak Cafe, and there are six books in all, including The Main Attraction and Just Desserts.

I found them because I Google searched on another poster's query and found that her book was by the author Janet Quin-Harkin. The name rang a bell with me, so I looked at the author listing on amazon and found them.

>3 MyriadBooks: Thank you.

And ha! I just did something similar on my other topic.

It all feels very Proustian: I'm resolving my inquiries via a stream of consciousness narrative.
