As included with the subject, the book is about a young teenage girl named catherine (it’s probably not spelled this way, but her name was catherine. it could’ve been something else that started with a c but catherine is the most familiar name when i think of this book) who’s father gets imprisoned and she has to take over his sailing duties in order to help him. I forgot the name of the ship but catherine openly expressed her love for the ship and she had been sailing with her father since she was young. Catherine had red curly hair and freckles(there’s no pictures in the book, this description is just in the book). I’m not sure what C’s destination was, but she was being pursued by some other pirates (forgot why). there’s a concept within the book about C being able to talk to the sea god, and she longs for the ability and gains it in the late portion of the book (i believe she gets the ability after getting shot in an altercation with the pirates pursuing her). there is a romance element in the book with this prince who was in a box (the box was supposed to be handled by C’s father but he was imprisoned. C wasn’t supposed to open the box). The prince’s family had been killed by a jealous uncle and i believe a servant had put him in the box in an effort to save him. At some point C goes to see her mother, with whom she has a strained relationship with since the relationship between the parents wouldn’t work. (her mom came from a wealthy family in a distant kingdom and the father was a traveling pirate). That’s pretty much all i can remember from the book to be honest. I read it in middle school (between 2016-2018) but the book had to be published after 2000. I know this was a long description but I just wanted to make sure I could get some help. Please help me find it :)

Song of the Current by Sarah Tolcser?

Caroline Oresteia is destined for the river. For generations, her family has been called by the river god, who has guided their wherries on countless voyages throughout the Riverlands. At seventeen, Caro has spent years listening to the water, ready to meet her fate. But the river god hasn’t spoken her name yet—and if he hasn’t by now, there’s a chance he never will.

Caro decides to take her future into her own hands when her father is arrested for refusing to transport a mysterious crate. By agreeing to deliver it in exchange for his release, Caro finds herself caught in a web of politics and lies, with dangerous pirates after the cargo—an arrogant courier with a secret—and without the river god to help her. With so much at stake, Caro must choose between the life she always wanted and the one she never could have imagined for herself.
