I am looking for a book of short stories for children. I do not remember the author or authors.

I only remember one of the stories. The story is told from 2 different perspectives. One by a group of Native American warriors living in the past and the other by two guys traveling in a vehicle. If I remember correctly, the vehicle is a van.
The warriors see a monster every night and decide to go fight it. The two guys are driving one night and see a warrior on horseback on the road in the van's headlights. The warrior throws a stone tomahawk at the van (the monster) and then disappears. The guys stop to retrieve the tomahawk. The wooden handle ages rapidly and only the stone part is left.

I read it in the 1960s or 1970s. It may have not been new when I read it.

It was a small, thin paperback book.

It may have been a scholastic book, but not sure about that.

It may have had line drawn illustrations. Also unsure about that.

Possibly, all of the other stories in the book
were of the same type of scifi or eerie vibe.

Bump.

There may have been an illustration of the warrior on a horse. The horse was rearing up on its hind legs.

But then again, maybe not; that could have been how I imagined it while reading the story.

There's an incident a little like that in one of the Mad Amos stories by Alan Dean Foster (the Chrome Comanche)...

>3 DisassemblyOfReason: dissassemblyOfReason. Thanks for the suggestion. I looked up Alan Dean Foster. Mad Amos seems to be an interesting character!

However, I could not find any of Mr. Foster's books that seemed to be what I'm looking for. Thanks for your help.
