I was browsing in the science section of the bookstore and came across a book with a Margaret Atwood blurb on the front. I don't think I've ever noticed an Atwood blurb before...or none that spring to mind. The book is Bill McKibben's Staying Human in an Engineered Age. Of course, I bought it.

Has anyone noticed other books or particular authors that our Margaret has blurbed?

Yes, on the back of the jacket of the 1996 reissue of Swann, by Carol Shields,

"One of the best novels I have read. Deft, funny, poignant, surprising and beautifully shaped." -- Margaret Atwood.

It's one of my favourite books too.

good idea, kathrynnd, to add the blurb itself...here's the one off the McKibben book...

"Passionate, succinct, chilling, closely argued, sometimes hilarious, touchingly well-intentioned, and essential." -Margaret Atwood, The New York Review of Books

Off a 1993 edition of The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter:

"She was, among other things, a quirky, original, and baroque stylist, a trait especially marked in Bloody Chamber---her vocabulary a mix of finely tuned phrase, luscious adjective, witty aphrorism, and hearty, up-theirs vulgarity."

Margaret Atwood in The Observer(London).

Off the back of a 2001 paperback copy of Mary Reilly by Valerie Martin.

Mary Reilly is both a tense drama---an authentically detailed historical novel---and a remarkable psychological portrait of an unusual and very sympathetic woman. Prime reading! ---Margaret Atwood

Off the back of a 2006 copy of The Echo Maker by Richard Powers.

A Grand Novel - grand in its reach, grand in its themes, grand in its patterning. ---Margaret Atwood, The New York Review of Books

I've been adding blurbers on books to CK as I've seen them. If you click on Margaret Atwood's name in the CK section for The Echo Maker mentioned above you will see a list of some of the books blurbed by Atwood, some added are missing. One I added recently was for the 1976 copy of Bear by Marian Engel.

Bear is a strange and wonderful book, plausible as kitchens, but shapely as a folktale, and with the same disturbing resonance. -- Margaret Atwood
