This is such a lovely book that lives on the edge between fact and fantasy. The watercolor illustrations emote the landscapes of home and the arctic beautifully. ( ) A little girl doesn't want to do her homework: finding out and writing down three facts about polar bears. Bored, she scribbles down vague answers and then goes to watch TV...and then a real live polar bear shows up and whisks her away to the Arctic (returning her at the end, of course, whereupon she produces an extraordinary report on polar bears). From whale music to the Northern Lights, this is a gently enchanting adventure. It reminded me so much of [b:The Polar Bear|28957063|The Polar Bear|Jenni Desmond|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1459328213s/28957063.jpg|49182779] by Jenni Desmond. Sophie has to do a book report on polar bears and all she can come up with is that they're big, mean, and they eat things. After a visit with a real polar bear who takes her on a journey through its habitat, she learns much more. The illustrations are amazing and the story is engaging and educational. 5***** Sophie’s homework assignment to look up facts to write about polar bears and the Arctic is of NO interest to her. She’s practically falling asleep when she gets a surprise from Olafur, a polar bear who takes her on an adventure that changes her mind and gives her a new perspective on polar bears and the Arctic. This book was wonderful from beginning to end. We’ve all been in that situation when it’s hard to get into a homework assignment. The creativity used to help change Sophie’s mind and get her excited about it was great. The artwork was amazing in this book as well. The Bear Report written and illustrated by Thyra Header, would be appealing to students K-4. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
