I liked the premise of this book. The book gives parents questions to ask their child about everyday scenarios in their home. I did find some of the questions helpful as I wouldn't have thought about them. However, overall, I found reading the book to my child to be pretty boring.

This book has an interesting way of describing to the reader what to do. It assumes that the child can't read yet, and the words describe exactly what the older companion to the child should do on each page. This is going to be awkward when the child learns to read.

This is a bright colorful book with lots of pictures guaranteed to grab the attention of a child. There are pictures of other children doing things around the house along with questions for a parent and child to talk about together. My daughter likes this book a lot although she is a bit too young for some of the questions. It's a nice book for her to grow into. ( )

This book by Smart Start provides parents with an easy way to get a conversation started with their children. Intended for preschoolers, Around My House! asks questions to get children thinking in three different areas of development: creatively, critically, and mathematically. I think children will enjoy and appreciate seeing photographs of real kids, just like them. The book even lists extension questions for parents to ask their children at the end of the book, as well as offering a website link for more ideas.

This is a book designed to help parents talk to their children about items around in the house in different ways (thinking creatively, abstractly, mathematically, etc.). It's simplistic at best and fairly formulaic. Coupling this with the shortness of the book itself, it ends up being the type of resource you'd expect to find on a free website somewhere, as opposed to >$10 someplace. If you're in desperate need of ideas for questions, this might be a good starter, but otherwise this falls short. ( )
