This book talks about a town in Morocco that had run out of water. A storyteller tells a boy a story and his cup fills up. The boy saves the city by telling the people in the city the story and the sandstorm. In the end, the whole story of the boy saving the town was itself a story. This book could be geared towards 3rd and 4th graders and share the importance of telling stories to one another. It could pair well with a lesson on personal narrative and having the students write a story about their life. I love the message of this book, which is told through the story as well as the dedication of the book and the Author's note on the end page, along with several reading suggestions for Further Learning. The message is about the power of stories and the importance of preserving the cultures and traditions of the past, as technology rapidly changes our world and our lives. The storyline is a little confusing, because of all the forward and backward motion of stepping into one story and out of another but overall I think it would be a beautiful addition to a classroom library. The illustrations are full of color and texture. Each page has a patterned border that makes me think of the textiles woven on the loom in the story. A really nice book for intermediate children. The book talked about a boy who learned the way from the storyteller to save the whole village. it uses many different points of view to tell several related stories. A really interesting book, but may require higher age and comprehension of the children. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
