This volume of the Murderbot Diaries didn't capture my attention the same way the previous volumes did. I think it's because it lacked that mystery/sleuthing component that the previous volumes had. However, I still really enjoyed it! In this volume Murderbot tries to meet Dr. Mensah in person, but finds she's gone missing. He comes to find that Dr. Mensah's been kidnapped by GrayCris and they've put a ransom on her. He discovers his former clients who are trying to negotiate the ransom are also assassination targets. AND he learns that the entire station is basically surrounded by enemies. In his attempt to save everyone, yet again, he comes to experience with a whole set of complex emotions and discovers more about himself as he narrowly avoids death's door. A great conclusion to the novella series, and an excellent jumping off point for the full-length novel continuation. This is definitely a series I'm going to continue following! Murderbot realizes that its investigations of the past two books have not gone unnoticed, and Dr Mensah has been blamed for controlling it to do her bidding. Gross. She’s being held captive as collateral so that various evil corporations can keep Murderbot’s findings from going public. What choice does Murderbot have but to rescue her? A very enjoyable conclusion to this first arc. Most of the loose ends are tied up but there's plenty of room for more. I'm looking forward to reading more and finding out how Murderbot’s feelings toward nice humans are going to evolve. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

The fourth and final part of the Murderbot Diaries series that began with All Systems Red. Murderbot wasn’t programmed to care. So, its decision to help the only human who ever showed it respect must be a system glitch, right? Having traveled the width of the galaxy to unearth details of its own murderous transgressions, as well as those of the GrayCris Corporation, Murderbot is heading home to help Dr. Mensah—its former owner (protector? friend?)—submit evidence that could prevent GrayCris from destroying more colonists in its never-ending quest for profit. But who’s going to believe a SecUnit gone rogue? And what will become of it when it’s caught? Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

There's something pleasing about the mundane sci-fi settings in the Murderbot series. Here, subterfuge and big dramatic fights take place in space shopping malls full of annoying adverts. Murderbot comments sarcastically on data mining in cheap hotels. Amid fast-paced events, the commentary on personhood continues to be astute. For instance, we learn that SecUnits aren't allowed to sit on furniture so Murderbot takes every opportunity to do so. It is determined to become a person on its own terms, though, rather than imitating humans.

Murderbot is a consistently engaging, funny, and thoughtful narrator. I am definitely hooked on this series and look forward to seeing where the plot goes.
