Dervla McTiernan has quickly become one of my favorite authors! This book is an Audible Original and only a little over three hours long. But, it's excellent and I really enjoyed it. It will have to hold me over until she writes another one, I've listened to all of her books! ( ) This short novel is set in 2004. The main characters are a young police woman, Carrie, who ten years later also appears in "The Ruin", and her sister Aifric, who has just started her career as a barrister. The two sisters have very different personalities, but they also have one similarity: They are both trying to start a successful career and to break into the boys' club. Aifric is assigned a difficult case: A young man is being accused of murdering his girlfriend after a night out, and he doesn't have an alibi. But Aifric has a gut feeling that something is not right, and Carrie is drawn into the case when she reads the file. Of course this story is short and thus, the characters are not as developed as in a longer novel and the ending comes a bit sudden. But still, I loved the author's style, I was pulled into the story at once, and could hardly stop listening. The people seemed real to me and the obstacles that the two young sisters encounter are all too credible. The narrator, Aoife McMahon, does an excellent job. This was a surprisingly good short story. The plot and characters were good and I liked how the sisters worked together to solve the crime and help prove the man accused was innocent. This is prequel, now I want to read the next book in the series. The narration was good too. Four stars to both the author and narrator. Great police murder mystery with two excellent female main characters. Together the sisters are trying to get to the bottom of a murder and be taken seriously in testosterone filled work environments. Thoroughly recommend this whole series and I am so sad that I have now read all the books. Please be writing another book, Dervla! geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderdeel van de reeks(en)Cormac Reilly (0.5)
Two sisters climbing the ranks of Dublin's criminal justice system. A murder case that could change their lives forever. The Sisters is a gripping new thriller from one of the most exciting voices in crime fiction. In this prequel to the international bestseller The Ruin, set ten years prior, bright-eyed Carrie Ryan is at the very start of her career. When she has a hunch about an ongoing murder investigation, she knows it could be her only chance to prove herself and truly break into the "boys' club" of Dublin's police force. Carrie uncovers this make-or-break moment in a case file that her sister Aifric, a newly qualified barrister, leaves on their kitchen counter: Robert Collins has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend after a fight in a local pub. All signs point toward a guilty verdict, but both sisters quickly begin to find evidence that complicates the story. All the while, Carrie is very aware that she's crossed the line-if the detective sergeant running the investigation finds out she's been messing around with his case, her career will be over before it has begun.
