See on ikka päris s***. Read this one after watching the series on Netflix and unusually I have to say the show was better than the book! I like the idea of following the romances of the Bridgerton kids so I will continue reading along with the series - at least until book 4 which are how many I got for a bargain price, LOL. I expect I'll enjoy the other books more when I get to know the characters on the page before I see them on TV. And now I remember why I stopped reading Julia Quinn. For a while it seemed like every man she wrote was a emotionally damaged man-child, and every woman knew everything. And the man would be saved though the love of a good woman. Therapy though marriage, I guess. And that's not my thing. The think I liked about this book was the family dynamic, which was well set up. It probably didn't leave a lot of space for the actual plot. I understand that this book underwent a lot of revision after the draft of the second one was completed, which is likely why it's a little choppy. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

And as for Daphne, surely the clever debutante will attract some very worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable. But as Daphne waltzes across ballroom after ballroom with Simon, she soon forgets that their courtship is a complete sham. So I gave in. Bridgerton has been everywhere I turn lately so I decided to read it. I must admit that I didn't know what I was getting into. I usually find regency romances a tad boring. However, this one was really full of so much humor. I have to admit the Bridgerton family is huge but they all are so clearly defined that I was eager to hear more of their stories. Violet is the best regency mother I think I've ever read. I also look forward to finding out who Lady Whistledown is... I imagine it's going to be a huge shock when we discover who she is. Anyway, basics aside lets talk about Simon and Daphne's story. I love Daphne she is a no nonsense kind of girl. She is well aware of the way her society works and doesn't suffer many illusions of how life is going to go for her.
Daphne knows exactly what she wants... it's just getting it that proves to be the problem. Simon swoops in with a solution to both of their problems and as can be expected they begin to fall for each other. A lot of hilarious moments ensue. We get some tense moments with a duel... We get the swoon... the tortured past... the oh wow I can't believe she did that moment (one which really threw me...). The two are really a cute match and I enjoy the banter between them and watching how each of them becomes so comfortable around the other. I just wish that the book had picked up. It felt like things got the most interesting for me at about the last 30% of the book which took no time to read, whereas the first 70% felt like it took a month. However, I look forward to reading book 2. ( )
