I received this book as part of the LIbraryThing's early reviewers program.I never thought I would find a religious/spiritual book that would actually resonate with me but this one did. She talked about not finding the same spiritual comfort as her minister father did and thus began a journey to find her own path, seeking out different spaces to explore on her own. I found Cunningham's book gentle and inspiring, not to mention courageous. It's worth the read, specially for someone also seeking their spiritual way. When I find myself writing a conversation with an author I know that it will be an enjoyable read. My conversation with this author began almost from the first page. I wrote notes and questions to her about how her experience of faith differed from mine. (Which they did greatly) I asked questions to her about her school experiences. I appreciated that the author was so detailed and authentic in her descriptions that I felt that I was entering a lived world. I could walk through the abandoned estate next to her. I was terrified walking next to her in London. I had tea and slept in a treehouse. I will admit that I had never heard of Elizabeth Cunningham before receiving this memoir. I am now interested in picking up a work of her fiction. This is a book about prayer but mostly it is a memoir about how prayer and faith can change, grow and sometimes be torn. Then sewed back together stronger like a spiders web Deze bespreking is geschreven voor LibraryThing Vroege Recensenten. A well written, moving portrayal of a life fully lived. This memoir chronicles all of the different paths in life that the author followed before finding the truest version of herself. An intriguing look at the small intimacies of life as well as the big picture. Highly recommended for those who enjoyed Sue Monk Kidd's The Dance of the Dissident Daughter or Priestdaddy by Patricia Lockwood. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
"In this nonfiction debut, Cunningham recounts both her lifelong spiritual quest and her ongoing spiritual questions. Her journey takes her from her childhood church, with its ornate liturgy, to the silence of Quaker meeting; from her ordination as an interfaith minister to an eclectic, earth-centered community where she served as priestess before becoming a hermit, of sorts, making a church of her own backyard. Candid and passionate, Cunningham's memoir invites readers of all faiths-and doubts!-to explore what it means to live life as a prayer in the beautiful, imperiled world we share"-- Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

Sadly, this book did not click with me. It's not that what Cunningham is saying is uninteresting, but I just don't think she presented her story well.
