There is nothing more restorative than reading all day, peacefully uninterrupted, especially when you don't have to think too much. The Secret Seven novels are so very easy to read, and yet not so simplistic as to lose their enjoyment. There are too many characters for any of them to become very "real" in such short stories, so the Seven never seem as alive as the Five or the Adventure children. But I can see why Malcolm used to love them when he was young. I wonder when I'll reach a title I haven't read before in haphazard fashion? One thing that amuses me is that what would be considered good recycling practice now was clearly commonplace then. Just naturally, the children are able to find old rope, old leftover planks, rubber sheets and even old cushions in their sheds - their parents clearly didn't throw anything away. Mind you, thinking of the lack of storage and space in English homes, I'd quite like to know how they managed it! geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
