This book shows the life of Josef Albers all while incorporating his art. This book talks about how Albers discovered the beauty in straight lines, squares, and simple colors. Josef Albers used colors and shapes to provoke feelings and would be amazing for students to learn that there are all kinds of art. ( )

An Eye for Color is the story of self-taught German artist, Josef Albers. His humble beginnings as an experimental art teacher earned him an invitation to come to America where he encouraged students to "capture the accident". It wasn't until he visited Mexico where his love for abstract art came to life, as he was enamored by the adobe buildings and how the forms could be reduced to very simple shapes. ( )

This was an awesome book. I never heard about Josef Albers until reading this book. It was very fascinating how he thought and use art with different colors and techniques. I also like how they have a glossary in the back of the book explaining what colors are and what they are used for. I would recommend this book to all art lovers and people who love colors. ( )

This book was phenomenal! I had never heard of Josef Albers before, and I never really thought about the study of colors. It's amazing to see an artist's passion just for something as simple as color. He was born in Germany and moved his way to America. Although he liked the US, he was entranced by the art in Mexico. The color contrasts really got him to thinking and started studying colors in the simplest of forms. He could have two squares, one inside the other, and make the inside square look like it was either poking out and going in just by contrast of colors. Also, the illustration in this book alone took the book to a whole new level. The illustrator seriously captured the essence of the art that Albers was studying. ( )

I enjoyed reading this book because it tells a short story about Joesf Albers, a painter from Germany, and explores his creations in a fun way students can understand. This is a good book because it is the story of a real person, but is presented in a short way that is exciting to younger groups of children to read.
