This gorgeous and delightful children's book is part of the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program.

It's simple, charming rhyme follows some American Black bears through the four seasons in a way even small children can understand. Perfect for parents to read to their small children; it is oversize, glossy and has beautiful full page illustrations.

At the end of the book there is a section with facts about the bears for parents to share with the child. And best of all, there is a list of suggested activities for parents and children based on the book.

"Candles on the menorah, ready to light! At Hanukkah, there are many much-anticipated rituals — latkes to eat, dreidels to spin, presents to give and receive, and shiny gold treats. Add some free-form fun, from shadow puppetry to singing and dancing, and you have a warm, truly child-friendly celebration." (www.amazon.com)

A young chicken with an imagination is laughed at by her peers until they are scared by a thunderstorm. Little Chicken Chicken then shows her talents and entertains the other chickens with a show from the things she found around the yard. The illustrations are fun and consistent throughout the story.½

Peep and Ducky are back again and this time they are playing in the snow. They grab their sleds and whoosh down the hill. It is a perfect snowy day. Everything is going great until someone gets snow kicked in their face. The friends are not speaking for a moment or two, but then they start to crack up and begin playing again. This is a great book for toddlers because they are like toddlers. I would recommend this for any collection. Peep and Ducky are likable characters.

I liked this book for many reasons. First, I liked this book because the language had rhyming in it, which is fun to read for children. For example, in the book, it says "Squirrels play, play all day, rabbits hide, and run away, but bears sleep, in winter deep, in a cave, in a heap." This allows children to see rhyming in a book they can read. The rhyming can also help the children understand what is happening in the book. Second, I liked this book because the plot was organized and paced. For example, in the beginning of the book, winter was ending and spring was coming. Then, summer and fall came and the bears would hunt. Finally, winter came again and the bears went back to sleep. This plot was organized because it followed the seasons. The big message of this book is to teach what can happen in seasons with animals. Also, it shows the order of how the seasons are in real life.

Ready, set, go! Whether you’re playing pretend games (beep, beep) or flying off the slide (ka-thump), flopping into a puddle (splish, splash) or running around a tree ("Can’t catch me!"), an afternoon at the park is so much better when your best buddy is there

The Five Little Pigs, by David Martin. The book is a classic story of five little pigs about going to the store, staying home, and crying all the way home. The characters are the mother and the five little pigs. The theme of the book is, I believe, a good read and entertainment for children. The story is different chapters of the book that tell stories of the pig going to the market. The pig that went to the market forgot everything that her mother had told her to get at the store but she easily remembered because she made a song. The pig that stayed at home was having a bad day by dropping his breakfast, ripping his pants, and spilling his juice. The next pig cried all the way home.

I liked this book for two reasons. First, the plot of the books is well organized. On the book, it not only started from fishing but also showed how they prepared for the fishing. When they arrived at the fishing place, it showed all the steps of fishing including placing the bait, times of waiting and finally catching the fish. Second, I think this book pushes readers to think about the issues. While many animals around the world are treated unfairly and being killed, it shows the readers that every life matters and it is important.

I greatly enjoyed the book Peep and Ducky Rainy Day by David Martin. The characters are humanized ducks, but are very relate able to young children and are easy to connect with. The plot is a little fast paced but all in all is organized. The illustrations put this book over the top as they fit the text perfectly. The big idea of the book is that it is okay to disagree with your friend, as long as the two of you talk it out.

I liked this book for a few reasons. I liked that the author used alliteration to support descriptions. For example, “fried fresh fish”. The alliteration example also uses descriptive adjectives. I also liked that the author utilized personification by having the pig characters have human characteristics. For example, they talked and wore clothing. I also liked that the author enlarges the text “I got a bite!” to create emphasize on an accomplishment that that Piggy made. I liked that the author gave the reader clues about the story by having illustrations of worms and donuts on the inside pages of the cover. The big idea of the story is to be kind to all living beings.

A brief and sweet story of how one pie gets eaten and another gets made. As we change viewpoints from family to family the perspective in the illustrations also changes so that the toys from one family become giant in the eyes of the next. The simple but engaging text will work well for read-alouds and includes many opportunities for audience participation - as each family naps, children will love to snore and the whole group will want to join in the call for another pie that leads to the end of the story. The final two double page spreads call for close examination as everyone joins in the creation of another "Pie for All." Don't miss the delightful endpapers, either!

In this large and colorful book various animals celebrate the joys of having hands, ears, feet, and other body parts. Each body part is introduced by a different animal and is followed by an action. For instance, the zebras have feet, “We can kick them. Can you?” Finally, all the animals realize that they’ve got bellybuttons, which are oh-so-fun to tickle, tickle, tickle!

Perfect for babies and toddlers, this book has very little text per page and the illustrations are playful and dynamic. The rhythmic questions invite kids to interact directly with the book, so get everyone up and moving when you read this book. In addition, the illustrations are full of animals with bellybuttons. Ask the kids to point them out to you and count them as you go along.

This is just one book in a series of books. In this particular one, a young monkey gets into all sorts of trouble. He gets taken away by a kite, he pops balloons, and he pretends that he is eating worms. The story ends when the monkey falls into a puddle.

I think that young readers will find this book humorous and will really enjoy it. The cartoons are fun and they would help new readers to figure out words. There is a lot of repetition that will help the young readers to learn the harder vocabulary.

For the classroom, I would have students discuss what some things that are expected of them are and what some things that they know that they shouldn't do are. I would then have them write in their reading journals about the things that are expected of them, such as chores, good grades, making their bed...½

This book is a great way to have children get involved. It talks about different body parts, emotions, and simple task such as clapping your hands. The illistrations are colorful and large. The text is perfect for emergent readers because they can finger point easily.

This is a really cute book that has great illustrations! Through out the book the children are asked if they can do each task the animals did. This is a great book for first time readers because of the larger print and is made of mainly base (recognizable) words.
