Over mijn bibliotheek

I love the feel of books in my hands, sleuthing out a desired copy, and seeing them on my shelves brings me joy. All my old friends are there, and some new ones as well. But I recently acquired an e-reader, something I wasn't sure I would ever do. But as my eyes grow older, I like the idea of being able to increase the font size, and being able to read in the dark has already proved useful when we lost power. Also, I now live far from university libraries where I am used to borrowing hard to find titles. Being able to access books digitally means my poor local librarian can stop interlibrary loaning books for me from all over the country.

Over mij

I read mostly international literature, World War II history and memoirs, and a smattering of graphic novels. In 2022 I changed up my usual free-range reading style and joined several reading groups: the Asian Book Challenge, the Graphic Stories thread, the Reading Globally theme reads, Remembering Rebeccanyc, and the Holocaust Literature group. I enjoyed it so much, I will continue them in 2023, swapping out Asia for Africa. Club Read is my home base.

JustJoey posted this on her thread, and I like the idea that every reader brings something different to the table, and what I bring today may be different that what I brought last time. Each reading is a new discovery.

You and I know too many different things, entertain too many different thoughts, hold too many different beliefs to see Pip—or any other character—in quite the same way. Same words, same pages. Different us. Sometimes different me. I find that my Pip today is not my Pip of yesterday. As I've changed over the years, I find that my thinking about characters has changed as well... —Thomas C.
